I Am Harriet Tubman by Grace Norwich

Harriet was born on March 10, in the 1820's. She was born a slave in Maryland. When Harriet was bigger, her owner sold Harriets and her sister to someone that lived somewhere where they could do harsher things to them. That was a really big fear for them. Harriet's owner loved her whip. Once on a shopping trip, an overseer hit her on the head with a heavy weight. That's why she wore a hat. She escaped from slavery. Years later and made her first trip back to rescue her niece Kessiah. Harriet made about thirteen trips back to help slaves. The trips were very scary. She had married but her husband refused to go. Eventually she remarried. She had to be careful that none of the slaves she helped free were slave capturers. She is now famous for helping slaves. Did you know that Harriet was originally named Aramanita.
